Olga Chernysheva was born in 1962 in Moscow.
She studied at the S.A. Guerassimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), Moscow, and the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam. She represented Russia at the 49th Venice Biennale (2001). She has exhibited at the M HKA, Antwerp, the Vienna Secession, the State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, Manifesta 10, the Bergen Triennale, the Drawing Center, New York, the Musée d’Art moderne, Paris, and at Le Quartier, Quimper...
Her works are in the collections of the MoMA (New York), Tate Modern (London), Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris), the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), the NBK (Berlin), Frac Bretagne and the private collection of Florence and Daniel Guerlain. She is represented by the Iragui Gallery (Moscow) and Foxy Production (New York).
